Sir Arthur Keith summarises the evolution doctrine as follows: “Evolution is unproven and unprovable. We believe it, however, because the only alternative is an act of creation by a God, and that is unthinkable.”
New Atheists recoil at the idea of God as the source of morality. In other episodes we have examined society, the individual, science and genetics as sources of morality. but in this episode God is seen to be the ultimate foundation for morality, despite the moral failings of religion.
Racism, rape, child abuse - they’re so obviously wrong that it’s hard to argue they’re not moral absolutes. Yet morality is difficult to build on science, on society or the individual.
